Project Hope hosts Day of Remembrance for those who died of overdose

It was early Wednesday morning at Jastro Park in downtown Bakersfield, and dozens of small flags stood in rows as people gathered together under the shade of the park’s mature trees.

“Each flag represents a life lost to overdose last year in Kern County,” said Cecilia Torres, associate clinical social worker with Project Hope, a local nonprofit trying to reduce the number of fatal overdose incidents in Kern.
